Application Information

Thank you for contacting the Early Childhood Learning Services Department. The information included below answers many questions you may have about the application process.

The application period for the next school year (24-25) begins in January 2024 and continues throughout the school year. Families will be able to complete an application in person.

 

Completing an application does NOT mean you have been accepted into the program.

Qualifying Requirements:

  Head Start is a federally funded school readiness program serving children three to five years old. The program includes comprehensive services to meet the needs of both children and families.

    • Children who are four years old by September 1 must apply for a Florida Voluntary Pre-K voucher through the South West Florida Early Learning Coalition.
    • A family must meet the federal poverty Income Guidelines to be placed on a waitlist or have a child with an Individual Education Plan (IEP)

Early Head Start is a federally funded infant toddler development program.

    • Children must be between the ages of birth and thirty months (0-30)
    • Pregnant women may apply
    • A family must meet the federal poverty income guidelines or have a child with an Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP)

DOCUMENTATION NEEDED TO APPLY

  • Birth Certificate
  • Parent ID
  • Proof of Address (electric, cable, water, lease/mortgage)
  • Copies of ALL household Income (1 month of most recent pay stubs, SSI, SNAP, most recent 1040, Social Security, Child Support, Unemployment, etc.)
  • Custody Papers if not the natural parent
  • Proof of pregnancy is required if pregnant and applying for Early Head Start.
