Application Information

Thank you for contacting Early Childhood Learning Services Department. The information included below answers many questions you may have about the application process.

The application period for the next school year (23-24) begins January 2023 and continues throughout the school year. Families will be able to complete an online pre-application on our website:

Once you have completed the pre-application, a staff member will reach out to you to complete the application at a convenient school site.

Completing this pre-application does NOT mean you have been accepted into the program.

Qualifying Requirements:

  Head Start is a federally funded school readiness program serving children three to five years old. The program includes comprehensive services to meet the needs of both children and families.

    • Children who are our years old by September 1 must apply for a Florida Voluntary Pre-K voucher through the South West Florida Early Learning Coalition.
    • A family must meet the federal poverty Income Guidelines to be placed on a wait list or have a child with an Individual Education Plan (IEP)

Early Head Start is a federally funded infant toddler development program.

    • Children must be between the ages of birth and thirty months (0-30)
    • Pregnant women may apply
    • A family must meet the federal poverty income guidelines or have a child with an Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP)


  • Birth Certificate
  • Proof of Income (last four weeks for all family members including child support, TANF, and SSI) or 1040 tax return (2021)
  • Custody Papers if not the natural parent
  • Proof of pregnancy is required.
